What is Escrow?

Escrow is the term used when a third party like Truzo holds the buyer’s money securely and only releases payment to the seller when they deliver the products or services bought. This way, buyers get what they’ve paid for without being scammed and sellers get paid on confirmed delivery without having to wait for payment. It’s a win-win for both buyers and sellers.

Why should I use Secure Trade (Escrow) on Junk Mail?

It’s the safest way to buy and sell with strangers. Using Secure Trade (Escrow) on Junk Mail means not worrying about getting scammed because all registered users are fully vetted and verified by Truzo. You don’t have to chase for payment and it’s so much easier to make and receive payments via Credit Card, Debit Card, Instant EFT or normal EFT. How does Secure Trade (Escrow) work?

Escrow is a service that allows buyers and sellers to transact in a secure environment.

It starts with a buyer and seller agreeing to transact. The buyer then pays the money over to the Escrow service provider and the seller delivers the product once confirmation is received that the transaction has been funded. Once the goods have been delivered as agreed upon and the buyer is happy, the funds are released to the seller.

All buyers and sellers using Escrow are verified by Truzo (the Escrow service provider).

After registering for Secure Trade (Escrow) with Truzo, there are just 4 easy steps:

  1. Agree: Buyer, seller and agent, if present, agree to the terms of the transaction.
  2. Secure: Verified buyer commits to a transaction by paying money into a secure Escrow account.
  3. Deliver: Verified seller delivers the products or services as agreed between all the parties.
  4. Pay: Once approved by the buyer, Truzo releases funds to the seller and/or agent.

How does Secure Trade (Escrow) on Junk Mail work?

Secure Trade is an Escrow service on Junk Mail that allows you to buy and sell products in a safe way. Below we’ll explain the steps of buying and selling through Secure Trade:

  1. Place a FREE advert on Junk Mail. When placing an advert that meets the criteria, you’ll have the ability to enable Secure Trade after you’ve entered your price.

Please note that only ‘For Sale’ adverts over R100 are eligible for Secure Trade. Also, certain categories are excluded from Escrow, so if the Secure Trade tick box does not come up after you’ve entered your price, your advert criteria is most probably not eligible for Secure Trade.
See the full list of exclusions here > https://www.junkmail.co.za/info/secure-trade-exclusions
  2. Register for Secure Trade. Buyers and sellers should be registered for Secure Trade to take part in a transaction. Please note that all users will be verified through Truzo before they can take part in any transaction.
  3. Set up a transaction. Sellers who are successfully verified can set up transactions from the ads or leads dashboards on Junk Mail. When setting up a transaction, the seller needs to select the number of inspection days the buyer will have before the money is automatically released.
  4. Approve and fund the transaction. The buyer will be notified once the seller has set up a transaction through Secure Trade and will be able to approve and fund the transaction from their transactions dashboard under Secure Trade on Junk Mail.
  5. Delivery. Once the seller has received confirmation that a transaction has been funded, the seller can deliver the goods to the seller. When delivery is confirmed, the number of inspection days starts counting down.
  6. Funds are released. Once the buyer has received the goods, they can either release the funds manually or the funds will be released automatically after the inspection days have lapsed.

Why should I give my personal details to register for a Secure Trade (Escrow) account on Junk Mail?

Secure Trade is an Escrow service provided by a third party called Truzo. The main objective of an Escrow service is to provide a safe environment for trading. In order to do that, Truzo needs to verify that all parties using the service are who they say they are to ensure safe trading. In order to verify each person and business properly, Truzo requires certain information like your personal details.

Why is my Secure Trade/Truzo account separate from my Junk Mail account?

Secure Trade is a separate service offered by Truzo (the third-party Escrow services provider). Because your Secure Trade account has access to sensitive information that is regulated by Truzo, it needs to be separate from your Junk Mail account, although the Escrow solution forms part of the Junk Mail website. By keeping the two separate, we add an additional level of security, which makes trading through Escrow safe and reliable for all parties involved.

Why do I have to log in to my Secure Trade/Truzo account if I’m already logged in to my Junk Mail account?

Junk Mail, in partnership with Truzo, wants to ensure that the Escrow service provided on the Junk Mail website is as secure as it can possibly be. By asking users to log in to their Junk Mail account and their Secure Trade account, we add an additional layer of security for our users, so they can buy and sell safely.

Your Secure Trade account is almost like a bank account, so you want to make sure it’s as secure as possible. What better way to do that than a double login and notifications every time you log in.

How will my advert display to users if I enable Secure Trade (Escrow) on Junk Mail?

When an advert has been Secure Trade enabled, the advert will stand out in three ways to users browsing the website.

  1. On Junk Mail’s search results pages, you will see the Secure Trade text and icon.
  2. On Junk Mail’s advert detail pages, you will see the Secure Trade text and icon at the top of the form.
  3. On Junk Mail’s advert detail pages, you will also see a Secure Trade block in the contact form, below the message field. This block contains the transaction fees table, and a preferred payment method should be selected when ticking ‘Willing to transact through Secure Trade’.

Why do I need to select a payment method when enquiring on a Secure Trade (Escrow) ad?

Selecting a payment method when enquiring about an advert makes the transaction process easier for the seller if he/she has all the details of the buyer. By asking how you would like to transact, we’re making it quick and simple for a transaction to be set up, should both parties agree on the product and price.

Please note that selecting a payment method does not mean you are required to make a purchase.

Where can I see the status of my Secure Trade (Escrow) transactions on Junk Mail?

You can see the status of your Secure Trade transactions by logging in to your Junk Mail dashboard, going to Secure Trade, and then selecting Transactions. You’ll be directed to a collective view of all your transactions. Click on each to view the status.

You can also click ‘Refresh’ to ensure the status is up to date.

How do the inspection days work on Secure Trade (Escrow) transactions on Junk Mail?

The inspection days are there to give the buyer enough time to check that they are happy with the goods they received. As soon as the seller confirms the delivery of the goods, the clock starts ticking on the inspection days. When the inspection days are over, the money is automatically paid to the seller, or if the buyer is satisfied with the product, they can release the funds to the seller before the inspection days are over.

The inspection days are customisable for each transaction and can be changed when the transaction is set up or edited afterwards.

Can I change the number of inspection days on a Secure Trade (Escrow) advert?

What am I not allowed to buy/sell through Secure Trade (Escrow) on Junk Mail?
