The micrometer was produced by the company, which began manufacturing micrometers in 1917 to supply precision instruments when they were difficult to obtain from the United States and Germany during wartime. The company was eventually taken over by GKN in 1963. Shardlow produced various types of micrometers, including external, internal, and depth micrometers, and even developed some with unique features like the "anglometric" model that measured in both imperial and metric units. These tools are often sought after by collectors of vintage and antique tools.
