Properties of rosemary essential oil
Rosemary is indigenous to the Mediterranean, but has been used by the Egyptians, Hebrews, Greeks and Romans since ancient times. In the Middle Ages it was used to ward off evil spirits and as protection against the plague.
Rosemary essential oil is extracted through steam distillation from the fresh flowering tops of the plant.
Often added to food, rosemary essential oil aids digestion and is effective against indigestion and relieves stomach cramps, constipation, flatulence and bloating. Through regulating the release of bile, it also detoxifies the liver.
Because of it anti-inflammatory properties, rosemary oil has been known to be an effective pain reliever. By massaging it into the skin, it relieves a variety of pains, such as headaches, rheumatism and muscle pains. This essential oil increases blood circulation to the treated area, thus relieving pain caused by arthritis, while helping wounds heal faster.
This oil has antiseptic qualities, making it useful in the treatment of respiratory infections. It can also relieve spasms of the respiratory system, providing relief from conditions such as bronchial asthma.
Through stimulating hair follicles, rosemary oil helps hair grow longer and stronger. It is also very beneficial to the scalp and helps to prevent it from drying out.
