The NAD T742 a 50 WPC Dolby ProLogic II Surround Sound receiver. But more importantly, it is a true high fidelity audio component the embodies the sonic attributes consistent with the NAD product line. It is highly musical and natural in its' tonal quality. I had used it for 2 channel playback for about a year with a pair of Dynaudio loudspeakers and an Oppo CD/DVD player. I listen to music a lot and rarely watch DVDs' and I find the T742s' presentation of music, either classical, pop or rock and roll very engaging and rather remarkable. It is detailed and quite dynamic and smooth without sounding dull or brittle. It has good sense of air and space in the midrange and treble ranges and throws a wide, deep soundstage with very good imaging in it's portrayal of both voice and instruments. The unit has always performed far beyond my expectations. It certainly sounds a lot more powerful than its' rated specifications. The Dynaudios' are fairly inefficient at 86db but the NAD never seemed to run out of power or dynamic potential even at sustained higher volume levels. Personally, I never used the surround sound. I used the T742 as a stereo amp with very satisfying results. However the party I bought the unit from used it in 5 channel and was very pleased with its' multichannel sound quality. The T742 is rated at 60Watts per channel in stereo, with 50 watts each into 5 discrete channels for surround sound and factory published stability down to 2 ohms; all with the usual superlative NAD dynamic capability. It is equipped with a Dolby Digital & DTS and Dolby ProLogic II decoders, a Subwoofer Output, a 96K/24 bit internal DAC and of course, a full function AM/FM tuner. The NADs' published description of the T742 is as follows: 5 x 50W Simultaneous Conti
