Junk Mail now offers our private users the option to register an account. Having an account has fantastic benefits for all private users that want to make their online and mobile buying and selling a breeze.

What are the benefits of having an account?

1. Registering an Account

How do I register?

 

 

You can register by clicking the “Register” link provided on our home page www.junkmail.co.za. You will be directed to an easy-to-complete registration form. Simply complete it and click on “Get Registered”. You will then be sent an email to activate your account. Click on the verification link within that email and you are ready to use your new account. Alternatively, click here to register your Junk Mail account.

 

 

 

What is the difference between “Private” and “Trade”?

 

 

Ticking the “Private” box on the registration form indicates that you are an individual seller representing yourself. Ticking the “Trade” box, on the other hand, indicates that you will be advertising on behalf of a business. Private sellers have a lot more freedom in placing their ads. Traders have more rules than private sellers, but they also have more features, like the trader directory and trader sites. By indicating whether you are a private seller or trader, we know what rules and features apply.

Register via Facebook

If you have a Facebook account you simply need to click on the Facebook button on the Junk Mail registration page to create and account or login.

Make sure you are logged into Facebook when you click the button. After clicking the button you will be asked if you would like to use the Junk Mail Facebook app to register. Click the “Go to App” button.

After you have “gone to the app” you should give it permission to access your data in order to create your free Junk Mail account. Click the “Allow” button.

After you have clicked the “Allow” button your account will be created and you will be logged into your account.

2. Account Login

How do I login?

 

 

On the home page there is a “Login” link that will take you to the login page where you will be required to enter your chosen username and password. If you aren’t able to login, verify your credentials and make sure that you have verified your account.

3. Account Verification

How do I verify my account?

When you register your account, you are required to provide an email address. In order to verify the authenticity of your email address, we send each new user a verification email. In that email is a link to verify your account. By clicking on that link, we know that you are you, and not someone pretending to be you.

What if I’ve lost my verification email?

 

 

If you have accidentally lost your verification email, you can request a new one. Simply go to the Login page and enter your email address and password and click on “Login Now!”. A message (in red) will appear providing you with a link to request a new verification email.

Alternatively, you can request a new verification email by contacting the webmaster. Be sure to include the email address that you used to sign up for the account. The webmaster can then resend the verification email for your account.

4. Username and Password Recovery

What if I’ve lost my username?

You can request a new verification email by contacting the webmaster. Be sure to include the email address that you used to sign up for the account. The webmaster can then resend the verification email for your account.

What if I’ve lost my password?

No problem. Just click here and enter your email address. A link to reset your password will be sent to your your email address.

 

 

Alternatively, go to the Login page where you will see a blue bar just below the “Login Now!” button. Here you will find a link to recover your password. On the next page enter your email address and click “Submit”.

 

 

You will now receive an email with a link that directs you to a page to easily reset your password.

 

 

 

5. Advert Management

Managing your ads is easier than ever with Junk Mail’s new user accounts. When you login, look for the “My Ads” tab. Click on it, and you will see a list of your ads currently on Junk Mail.

There are 2 sub-tabs in the “My Ads” tab:

  • Active Ads
  • Deactivated Ads

All your active ads will show in the Active Ads tab while all your inactive ads will show in the Deactivated Ads tab. When you deactivate an active ad it will appear in the Deactivated Ads tab and will be removed from search relusts. If you Activate an advert from the Deactivated Ads tab it will appear in the Active Ads tab and appear in the search results.

To view your inactive ads simply click on the Deactivated Ads tab. If you want to view your active ads again simply click on the Active Ads tab.

At the bottom of each ad you will see the following buttons to manage your ads depending on what sub tab you are:

  • Edit
  • Activate
  • Deactivate
  • Repeat
  • Bump Up
  • Promote
  • Delete

Alternatively:
On your Junk Mail Dashboard, you will find a summary of all your adverts, where you will also find buttons to edit your ad your ads.

How can I “associate my ads”?

 

 

As an avid Junk Mail user, you have probably placed ads on Junk Mail previously. In order to help make it possible to pull your previously placed ads, we have done a match of your previous ads against your user credentials. Any matches we find, we allow you to associate with your account, where you will be able to repeat them as you like.

Can I still manage my ads without an account?

Yes, when you have placed a free ad on Junk Mail, you will receive a confirmation email that will have the option to Edit, Repeat, Deactivate, Upsell, or Bump Up your ad.

6. Advert Responses & Messages

Where can I view my advert responses and messages?

 

 

In this day and age, it is practically impossible not to have an email account of some kind. However, it is also quite easy to see your email account become flooded with responses from your Junk Mail ads, making it difficult to manage all the other things you need to do.

The Inbox feature of your user account acts just like your email inbox, except that it is clearly dedicated to your Junk Mail ads. All emails are saved to your inbox and sent to your email by default, but if you wish to manage everything online, you can select “Don’t email me. Manage all ads online” in the “My Preferences” tab.

7. Email Address and Password Locking

 

 

Security is a major concern online. As part of our new user account, we make it easy to ensure that any ad that is placed using your telephone and email address will be placed by you. Once your create your account, you can “Lock my email address” and “Lock my telephone number” in the “My Preferences” tab.

When you do this, you won’t be able to place an ad without logging in. On the other hand, no one else will be able to place an ad with your email address or telephone number.

8. Email Alerts

How do I setup an Email Alert?

 

 

You can set up alerts to receive ads placed for items that interest in your email inbox.

Once logged in, click on the “My Alerts” tab. Here you will find a form to set up an alert for specific items/services. When you’ve completed the form, click on “Save”.

Important things to know about setting up your alert:

  • You must select both a Category and a Sub-category; and
  • You must select at least to the city level in the Region select.

It is also strongly recommended to set a keyword.

How do I edit or delete an alert?

 

 

 

When you click on “My Alerts” in your account, a list will be displayed of all your current alerts. Here you will be able to edit or delete these alerts, or set up entirely new alerts.

You are also able to view, edit or delete your alerts from you Dashboard.

9. Your Profile

 

 

 

When you login to your Junk Mail account, you will see a “My Profile” tab where you can complete your details.

The good news is that you don’t have to tell us any more than you want to. However, here are some features that we think might make you want to fill out your profile:

  • Every telephone number you enter will be protected by our Locked Number feature;
  • Selecting your default region will mean that we pre-select your region when you login, so you don’t have to wade through all the region facet; and
  • As new user account features are developed, you will find that presenting your name as the account holder will make people more willing to trade with you than if you used an alias.
