The Dryver Mobile App is a first in South Africa from Tops at Spar. Drinking and driving is a serious issue in South Africa and this Mobile App / Social Network is a pro-active solution. There are more than 500 Tops at Spar stores across Southern Africa. They are known for their edgy marketing and advertising campaigns. Dryver is a brand new social media network which is available for those “who’ve had one too many”. Instead of employing shock tactics, Tops at Spar have opted for a more pro-active approach. New liquor legislation is on the cards that could completely outlaw driving under the influence of alcohol and it’s also calling for a total ban on liquor advertising in the traditional media, prohibit sports sponsorships and outlaw a range of other promotional activities involving liquor. Tops at Spar are aiming to affect positive change, immediately and in the future. They know the effects of drinking and driving and they want to give their customers a solution. They want to make them aware that they have a choice to be responsible and by delivering their message in a practical and fun way that includes a call to action they believe they are taking our responsibility seriously. The Dryver app is “tipsy friendly” and easy to use. It creates a mobile community network of friends from one’s existing phone contacts and ensures that help or a lift home can be arranged at any time that you feel that you’ve had one too many. Users can set their status to ‘DRYVING or ‘DRINKING.’ Friends can view one another’s statuses and connect with each other before they set out for a social occasion or use Dryver when they’re already out and about. In addition ‘Designated Drivers’ can be agreed on in advance and this can be communicated to the Dryver friends list. A clever feature of the app is the “Rescue Me” option. This can be activated if you’re feeling a little too tipsy to contact a friend directly. Dryver will send out an SOS message with your current location to all the active Dryvers on your list. If all else fails, the Dryver taxi service tab will enable the user to find a taxi in the area, ensuring a safe trip home. The Dryver app is paired with networking and geo-location technology and is available for Apple, Android, Windows and Blackberry Smartphones. The Dryver app / social network is proof that South Africa is on the ball when it comes to invention. It’s the logical and safe choice for a country that is more and more driven by the digital age. You can download the app at this link. Spread the word about this awesome app. Share this article with your friends on Facebook and Twitter. You could be the one who saves a friend’s life.

It is that time again! The SANBS will be here at the Junk Mail head office partnering with Engen this coming Thursday. Previously we aimed for about 30 units of bloods. Sad truth is that this is not enough! There are currently less than 5% of the country’s population donating blood. You know that every minute, someone in a hospital near you is in need of blood. We are asking you as our user and friend to come and donate blood with us at the Engen garage. There will be a tent across our office on the outside of the Engen and you can just swing by and become part of a DOnation. You can come say hi between 09:00 and 15:00. We are also inviting University students to come an donate blood. If you are in a Residence you will still be able to receive your RAG points, just make sure that you provide the correct residence name on the form. Come join Junk Mail and Engen and donate blood. You can save someone else’s live. This is an opportunity you cannot miss! Be a hero, it is in your blood!

The post Come Donate Blood With Junk Mail For A Day appeared first on Junk Mail Blog.

South African music is alive and well. Accomplished singer / songwriter Lucy Kruger is proof of that. She’s originally from Johannesburg, but moved to Cape Town after completing her degree in music at Rhodes University in Grahamstown. Today we’re actually announcing a competition for the Rise and Shine Festival (a one day festival in Johannesburg where Lucy is performing on the 8th of June 2013), but keep on reading, we’ll tell you more about that later in this article. Lucy Kruger is not new to the SA Music industry. This young lady has been writing and performing her own material for more than six years. She started playing guitar because she wanted to write music. One of the first songs that she learned on guitar was Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You”. After hearing the song and feeling what it was to play with, she was hooked for life. After setting her heart on music she was constantly reminded how tough the music industry is. She is a humble and hard-working artist. Lucy launched her debut album entitled ‘Cut Those Strings’ last year. The album was produced by Schalk Joubert and was engineered by Dave Langemann and features collaborations with artists like Inge Beeckman, Kevin Gibson, Melissa Van Der Spuy, Alert Frost and others. This inspiring young artist has taken the South African music scene by storm with her fresh take on indie/alternative rock. Lucy won third place in the 2012 Barleycorn songwriting competition and ranked among the top 12 entries for last year’s Bushmill Band Search. She has performed at many music festivals around the country, including Up The Creek, Synergy Live, RAMFest, White Mountain Festival, Rock The River SA and the Grahamstown Arts Festival. The first single off her debut album, “Four White Walls” was play-listed on MFM, RSG, UCT Radio, PUK FM, Kovsie FM, Zone Radio and other SA radio stations last year. Her sound is rooted in a rich tapestry of skillful and versatile vocals bolstered by soulful melodies. Have a listen to the song below and you’ll see what I mean. I recently had the honor and privilege of interviewing Lucy Kruger before she departed on another tour, this is what she had to say. What prompted you to start a career in music? It is the thing that I am most in love with. I wanted to make the affair last. Which venue / festival / concert series is your favorite to play at and why? I really loved playing Up the Creek last year. The space is beautiful and the atmosphere just right. It is small enough to maintain intimacy while still maintaining the quality of the bigger festivals. What are you currently working on? I am just about to head up to Mozambique for STRAB Festival (which is a first for me) and it’s very exciting. Shortly after that I am going to Grahamstown (which was home not so long ago) for the National Arts Festival. Aside from the gigging, I am always writing. I [...]

The post An Introduction to Lucy Kruger appeared first on Junk Mail Blog.

We all know and love the Marvel comic books and the movies that have come from these comic books. Iron Man 3 just hit theaters and later this year we will get to see Thor: The Dark World. S.H.I.E.L.D. (or Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate) is the agency that put together The Avengers. What makes this TV series exciting is that the series plays out in the same Marvel universe that we’ve experienced in the movies. The series will also be directed by Josh Whedon, he also directed The Avengers. Continuity will therefore be shared between Marvel movies and the Agents of SHIELD TV series. This will not only be a great addition to the Marvel franchise but it will also be a great addition to the entertainment that is viewed by Marvel fans worldwide.

The post Agents of SHIELD: Marvel TV series heading our way appeared first on Junk Mail Blog.
